Mountain View Turnout 101
Mountain View Turnout is an iconic and unique venue for your elopement or small wedding in Grand Teton National Park. It is essentially a small parking area near String Lake, and wedding ceremonies take place in a sagebrush field a few steps away.
Mountain View Turnout is a great launching point for photos at some of my other favorite sites near the mountains that most guests skip, too.
location
Mountain View Turnout is one of the more remote wedding ceremony sites in Grand Teton. It is fairly far from Jackson and it is not located near any of the other popular sites so it generally requires a more unique itinerary. It is better for either an elopement or a longer wedding day, given the travel time. It’s even better if you’re staying inside the park for lodging and dinner, like at Dornan’s or Jackson Lake Lodge.

PERMITS
Historically I’ve recommended hiring your photographer or planner before getting permits so they can help you navigate the process. Permits have become so competitive that I no longer recommend this - find out if you even get a permit before hiring vendors.
Permits cost $200 and can be found on the Grand Teton Weddings & Ceremonies page.
Permit applications opened on December 4th, 2025. Do not submit your application before the park opens applications - they will not accept them and you will not receive a refund.
Cost
Eloping or having an intimate wedding at Mountain View Turnout is significantly more budget-friendly than traditional venues in the area. Couples can secure a spot via a $200 permit fee through the Grand Teton National Park.
Because Mountain View Turnout is on the inner park road, you will have to pay $35 entrance fee or use your interagency pass.
season
Summer through fall are the best times for ceremonies at Mountain View Turnout and other venues in the Tetons. It can stay chilly in the mornings all summer, but it’s much more bearable in July and August. The sun does set early at Mountain View Turnout, though.
Mountain View Turnout is not available for winter weddings because the inner park road is not plowed.
This location tends to work best for couples who:
want a quiet, minimal ceremony without a formal setup
want to be closer to the mountains
like the more atypical photo locations
It’s usually not a good fit if:
you want total privacy at peak times
you want to visit the more popular wedding venues too
