Sunrise Bridal Session Pt. 2 in Ida Gulch

Ida Gulch is one of those Moab wedding venues that no one ever seems to get right. Not even just wedding photographers–commercial photographers love to pretend like it’s a big trail running and cycling destination too and everyone’s photos have the same complex, harsh shadows.

More than anywhere else, Ida Gulch is a place where a local photographer comes in handy. I lived right across the street from Ida Gulch and Fisher Towers for years so I saw the way the sun hit the mesas and hills at every time of day. There is a time when Ida Gulch shines and a lot of times when it doesn’t so it’s so useful to have that kind of insider knowledge.

I was a little overzealous with the start time so we arrived when it was still a little dark and chilly. But once the sun started to rise we started walking out towards the mesas to round out their two-part bridals session.
