Venue - Corona Arch

Corona Arch is a three mile hike off Potash Road, roughly 3o minutes from Moab. The hike crosses a railroad then wanders across the Navajo sandstone to reach Corona Arch and Bow Tie Arch. The hiking is uphill but mostly mellow with a few exposed spots with handrails and ladders. When we lived in Moab, our old Golden Retriever could always navigate these sections easily so they’re pretty manageable.

As one of the biggest and most spectacular arches outside of Arches National Park, Corona Arch is a great place for an elopement. It’s not the most accessible site of course so you’ll want to have a fairly fit group.

Jan and Stacy traveled in from California with a few friends for their intimate hiking elopement at Corona Arch. There is no cell service that far down Potash so we met at the trailhead in the late afternoon.

Jan and Stacy didn’t want to hike in their wedding apparel so their friends all chipped in to carry various items. There isn’t much coverage at Corona Arch so they packed in a changing tent for everyone to use.

When we reached Bowtie Arch, we stopped for everyone to get ready in the shade. Then we moved towards Corona Arch for the wedding ceremony. The sun was strong but the occasional clouds provided a nice respite as the sun gradually set behind the cliffs.

After the ceremony, we snapped photos with their friends in the shade beneath Bowtie Arch then explored the rest of the arch with Jan and Stacey.

As our time came to a close and we began the hike out, the cliffs began to glow with the sunset. I’d been waiting for that time all evening and the puffy, scattered clouds and orange glow were the perfect way to end an intimate Corona Arch elopement.
